I'm Rafael, a Senior Software Engineer and Architect based in Porto Alegre, Brazil. For over 20 years, I've been obsessing over how to build distributed systems that are resilient, scalable, and — above all — reliable under pressure.
My career spans fintech, gaming, and enterprise software. From early monoliths to event-driven microservices running on AWS, I've seen architectures evolve and learned that every great system is a series of deliberate trade-offs.

Maintain and enhance a Spring-based backend ecosystem powering payment flows (checkout planning/execution stability), applying scalable service design and reliability practices. Manage observability infrastructure with Terraform (Datadog), create dashboards and alerts. Operate CI/CD pipelines with Harness, migrating from Jenkins. Centralize error handling with AOP (AspectJ). Orchestrate biweekly production releases with risk assessment. Improve throughput using AI-assisted tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot).
Architected and built a secure platform for crypto fiscal document compliance with Receita Federal (Brazil). Managed AWS account, IAM, roles and policies following PoLP. Implemented event-driven architecture, serverless APIs, and databases. Integrated with exchanges (Binance, Bitso, Mercado Bitcoin, NovaDAX), payment gateways (Asaas), and CRM/communication tools (Sendgrid, Zoho, Beeviral). Used Terraform for IaC, Sentry for monitoring, Jenkins for CI/CD.
Designed a scalable architecture for a career planner application matching multiple data sources with AI, pluggable to any company. Responsible for event-driven architecture, serverless, and microservices using Node and Python. Managed all AWS cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and CI/CD. Implemented IaC with Terraform for disaster recovery. Integrated Dynatrace, Splunk, Kubernetes, Vault, Sonar, Artifactory. Adopted DynamoDB, DocumentDB, OpenSearch, API Gateway, BFF, and feature flags (Growthbook). Mentored the team on scalable architecture and clean code.
Responsible for technical definitions for Client Platform and Payment Gateway squads. Evolved architecture in scalability, idempotence, resilience, and performance using event-driven patterns with Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Spring Cloud. Adopted microservices with Java, Spring Boot, and Spring WebFlux. Implemented batch payment processing with Spring Batch and Camunda. Integrated third-party payment gateways (Matera, Dock). Improved monitoring with ELK and Grafana. Prioritized technical debt and legacy support.
Designed a scalable streaming hub to process all of Sicredi's accounting using Scala, Kafka, and Apache Flink. Migrated legacy data to the digital platform creating ETL processors. Built microservices APIs with Java, Spring WebFlux, Consul, Vault, InfluxDB, and MongoDB. Integration tests with Groovy and Spock. Integrated with Datalake, Athena, and Kafka Connect. Mentored the team on event-driven architecture, functional and reactive programming.
